‘Destination Digestion’ Activity Sheet available for download
Earlier this year, CoDiet was invited to be one of a handful of research projects to contribute to the Summer Science Packs created by Imperial College London’s Public Engagement team. The packs came about during the COVID-19 pandemic when school children had reduced access to hands-on learning. This year, 2,800 packs were circulated to 24 charities in the local area and to date, 10,000 packs have been distributed.
The CoDiet activity sheet, ‘Destination Digestion’, is aimed at children 7-11 years old. Children are first introduced to CoDiet Communications Manager, Harry Jenkins, who explains a bit about his work as a science communicator. The activity itself encourages children to explore the digestive system by building their own model and and then presenting their creation and what they’ve learnt to a parent or friend.
One parent commented on her child’s particular enjoyment of the CoDiet activity; “My kids really enjoyed the digestive system activity…My 7-year-old went upstairs without even me seeing [the pack] first, she started with the first activity and she came and she’s like, ‘Look what I’ve done!’. It was so lovely seeing that and seeing her learning about how different bits of food are digested. It was just so nice to see her doing it and doing it independently as well.”
The activity sheet is available for download now from the CoDiet website in both English and Spanish. If you try out the activity yourself, we’d love to see your creations – share here!
